I was born in Baghdad and lived in various Middle Eastern countries before eventually settling in the UK in 1988. Having grown up in a family context where political activism and faith were the staples of life, I have an acute understanding of the different ways and layers in which faith, politics and religion can interact, and influence one another, and their impact on individuals and society.
